The cobblestone waterfront

River Street, Savannah

River Street is Savannah's riverfront, a cobblestone promenade of restored cotton warehouses along the Savannah River, now shops, restaurants, bars, and riverboat cruises.

This page is the orientation: the restaurants, the shops, the river views, the events, and how to get there.

The street

What River Street is

River Street runs along the Savannah River at the north edge of the Historic District, in the old cotton warehouses that once stored the port's cotton. The warehouses are now shops, restaurants, and bars, and the cobblestone street by the water is the city's most photographed evening walk. The riverboats dock along the waterfront, and the Talmadge Memorial Bridge frames the view.

The evening

River Street after dark

River Street is the classic Savannah evening: the bars and taverns along the waterfront, the riverboats lit up, and the cobblestones under the bridge lights. It is a natural date-night walk, and the date-night page and the live-music page carry the evening rooms.

Getting there

Parking and access

River Street sits below the bluff, reached by the ramps and stairs from Bay Street. Parking is in the garages and lots of the Historic District, then a short walk down to the river. The getting-around page carries the full parking and walking notes.
