The Georgia coast
Beaches & Coastal Savannah
Savannah is the gateway to the Georgia coast, and the classic beach day is a short drive east to Tybee Island.
This page connects the city to the coast: the beaches, the boat activities, the fishing, the dolphin tours, and the coastal nature.
The beach day
Planning a beach day? Explore Tybee Island.
Tybee Island is Savannah's beach, about 18 miles east down US 80. The day trip is simple: the beach, the Tybee Island Light Station, and the fishing pier, with the island's seafood rooms for lunch. Tybee is the coastal destination, and Savannah is the city destination; the two work best as a pair, a city weekend with a beach day in the middle.
For a fuller coastal day, the boat activities run from the Savannah side: dolphin tours, kayaking, and fishing charters on the rivers and sounds around the city.
