Living in Kennesaw

Kennesaw sits on the north side of the metro with strong schools, a walkable downtown, and the battlefield park as its backyard: trails, history, and a view over the metro. Cobb County services and the city's own college (Kennesaw State) shape daily life. It is a mature, prosperous suburb with a mountain at its center.

The story of Kennesaw

History of Kennesaw

Kennesaw started as Big Shanty, remembered as the place where the Great Locomotive Chase began in 1862 and as a point Sherman's army passed in 1864. It was renamed Kennesaw when it incorporated in 1887, taking the name of the mountain at its base.

The mountain's Cherokee name, often rendered as gah-nee-sah, gave the town its identity long before the growth of the modern suburb. Kennesaw today sits at the foot of the national battlefield park named for the same mountain.

Practical notes about Kennesaw

The questions a move here starts with

Schools

Attendance follows the address: the school district for a given lot depends on the boundary, and in most small Georgia cities the county system carries the load. The single reliable move is to verify the exact attendance line for the address before you buy or rent.

Getting around

A car is the honest answer in Cobb County: the daily loop runs on local roads and the county highways that connect the region, with the nearest interstate or four-lane within reach.

Jobs & healthcare

Work in and around Kennesaw tracks the county economy: schools, county government, healthcare, and the area's agriculture and manufacturing, with the nearest regional centers a short drive away. Hospital care means the county hospital or a drive to the nearest regional system, so confirm coverage before you need it.

New residents

Start with the county: utilities, permits, and most services run from county offices, and the city handles what it keeps local. Check water and sewer providers at the address, register with the county tax office, and let the school boundary decide the final answer on any address you are close on.

What locals love

  • · Kennesaw's own corner of the metro: the neighborhood runs at its own pace.
  • · County parks, pools, and greenways a short drive from home.
  • · Being inside the job grid without living in the middle of it.
