The 2026 FIFA World Cup comes to Atlanta in a big way: the city is one of 16 host cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and Atlanta hosts eight matches, the most of any U.S. venue, all at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, branded as Atlanta Stadium for the tournament. The marquee date is the semifinal on July 15, 2026.

Atlanta's eight matches
- Five group-stage matches: June 15, 18, 21, 24, and 27, 2026.
- A Round of 32 match on July 1.
- A Round of 16 match on July 7.
- The semifinal on July 15, 2026, the marquee match and the one most Atlanta-area fans circle on the calendar.
Following the December 2025 draw, some group-stage pairings are known, including Spain versus Cape Verde on the opening Atlanta date of June 15 and Spain versus Saudi Arabia on June 21. The full bracket fills in through the tournament, so matchups beyond the group stage are set as the tournament progresses.
Getting there
The practical notes for the corridor
- The drive is I-85, and match days change it. From the Hamilton Mill side, the route into Atlanta is the same I-85 corridor everyone already uses, and tournament crowds on top of normal commuter traffic will make match days peak days. Give yourself far more time than a normal game day, and expect the heaviest congestion near the downtown exits around kickoff and right after the final whistle.
- The train is the smarter move for many. Mercedes-Benz Stadium sits downtown on the MARTA rail line, and for residents who can reach a park-and-ride station, the train avoids parking garage fees and post-match gridlock entirely. Check the MARTA event-day plans and station parking before you go, because tournament service is worth confirming rather than assuming.
- Parking sells out and prices rise. Downtown parking near the stadium fills early for big events, and World Cup matches will be the biggest of the year. Reserve parking in advance through official channels or plan around transit rather than circling for a spot.
- Plan around July heat. The semifinal lands in mid-July, and Atlanta in July is hot. The stadium is indoor, but the walk, the lines, and any open-air fan zones are not, so hydrate and dress for the weather.

Fans who do not have tickets can still find watch parties, fan gatherings, and public viewing events around the region, which are organized and announced closer to the matches. If you host visitors, book lodging and restaurant plans well in advance for the June and July windows, because the region fills up around the match dates.
