Snellville's outdoor life splits between the city park and the county parks on its edges, with Stone Mountain and its granite dome about ten minutes west. The best plan starts at Briscoe for the morning and finishes at one of the county lakes in the afternoon.
T.W. Briscoe Park
Briscoe is the city flagship on Sawyer Parkway: a 1.2-mile paved walking trail around the perimeter with exercise stations, a fishing lake with picnic tables, an outdoor pool in season, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, and the community garden. It is also the festival grounds, so check the calendar on event weekends.
The county parks
- Lenora Park south of the city: ballfields, playgrounds, and open space with a lake on the county side.
- Bethesda Park west on Scenic Highway: the big county sports and event park with a pool.
- South Gwinnett Park: the lakeside county park near the hospital corridor.
Stone Mountain Park
Ten minutes west on the 78 side, Stone Mountain Park gives Snellville its landmark afternoons: the walk-up trail, the summit ride, the lakes, and the seasonal festivals. Daily parking and entry fees apply at the gate, and the park's own page is the source for hours and pricing.
